General Lying In Hospital London,Midwifery badge
Opened in 1767,the General Lying In Hospital was located on York Road Lambeth and was to eventually become the Maternity Branch of St Thomas' Hospital,before it's closure in 1971.The building still survives as part of the Premier Inn.
This pendant badge, which is unusual in that it is in white metal, consists of a pin back suspension bar bearing GLIH(General Lying In Hospital) from this hangs an oval badge bearing a Stork and Bullrushes,both associated with babies.In good overall condition,Pin and clasp intact.Marked to rear G Kenning & Son London.Height 58mm
