Mile End Infirmary,Cased Silver Nurses Prize medal

A rare silver and enamel nurses prize medal from the Mile End Infirmary in Londons East End. See;http://ezitis.myzen.co.uk/mileend.html
Originally the Infirmary for the Workhouse, it was renamed Mile End Hospital in 1930.This silver medal shows a figure, possibly Hygeia, below a red Maltese Cross.It is suspended on an original blue silk ribbon, however this has become separated from its white metal suspension bar.In its original silk and velvet lined case from Mappin & Webb.
The medal is inscribed to the rear Second Prize Presented by the Medical Supt. to M Edwards 1913. Hallmarks for M&W Birmingham 1913
