Winford Orthopaedic Hospital Bristol,Silver Nurses badge
A scarce silver and enamel nurses badge for the Winford Orthopaedic Hospital just outside Bristol.
The Nurse Training School opened in 1945 and the first badges were awarded in August 1954. The design features two shields ,the first bearing a sailing ship for the South West Regional Hospital Board.The second bears a red dragon or Wyvern from the old county arms of Somerset.These are topped by a White rose of York,in honour of the Duke and Duchess of York(later King George VI ) who opened the hospital in 1930.Very good condition with pin and clasp good.Engraved for S M Rogers, Hallmarked for TF Birmingham 1954.
The Hospital closed in 1996.
