Newmarket General Hospital/GNC Enrolled Nurse, Pair of Badges

A pair of badges awarded to the same nurse for her training at the Newmarket General Hospital in Suffolk in the 1960s.
The first is a silver and enamel badge which features the Nurses Lamp of Learning above a red bar with the latin phrase Salus Infirmorum-Health of the Sick.This is placed within a Green enamelled horseshoe which signifies the towns link to the Racehorse industry.In May 1964 the Hospital ceased to train Student Nurses and this version of the badge was instigated for Pupil Nurse training.The badge changed slightly in 1967 so this pattern was in use for a very brief period.It is very good condition with pin and clasp intact and safety chain in situ.Hallmarked for Thomas Fattorini,Birmingham 1965.Height 33mm
The second item is a bronze metal and enamel General Nursing Council for England & Wales badge.This is named for P W Smith SEN 107152 3.5.67. In good condition with pin and clasp intact.
These come in a velvet lined cardboard jewellers box from AS Wigg & Son High Street Newmarket. it also has a small newspaper cutting detailing the recipient Patricia Winifred Smith as the Silver Medal for the Most Outstanding Nurse.
