A scarce silver and enamel badge for training at the Borocourt hospital near Henley on Thames.The Boro was derived from the acronyms for the original Buckinghamshire,Oxfordshire, Reading and Oxford Authorities which it was to serve .Opened in the 1930s in Wyfold Manor House for the treatment and care of Learning disabilities Patients it closed in the 1990s.The site has now been redeveloped to Luxury Apartments.
The badge consists of a central cross of St John in red with various medical emblems to the branches of the arms.This is over a blue wavy line denoting the River Thames.There appears to be a rams head and a deers head to the top left and bottom right quarters.Around the edge is St Birinius Group Hospital Management Committee, Group Training School with a scroll at the bottom with Borocourt Hospital. Condition is very good with pin clasp and safety roller catch all good. Silver hallmarks for TYF Birmingham 1968
