Hockin London, late 19th Century Nurses Chatelaine set and instruments

Yet another of these rare surviving pieces of Nursing equipment from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. A Nurses chatelaine set of equipment in a leather case.These were widespread from the Mid Victorian era up until just after the First World War.Worn suspended from a nurses belt these would contain the nurses tools of her trade of the time. The contents could vary slightly but this one by the company of Hockin of London, is a fairly typical example.
It consists of a brown leather case with apertures to fit the instruments.
In this case are; An unidentified white metal instrument handle
a pair of white metal scissors marked Hockin
A small pair of metal nail scissors
A white metal wound probe/curette spoon
another similar probe
A metal screw topped tube containing a glass mercury thermometer marked in Fahrenheit
A small pair of metal tweasers
The leather case is rather distressed with flaking to the body and straps although a good balsam has been applied it would benefit from further applications. The straps are intact on this example but are very prone to damage after 130 years!
The rear is marked for Hockin London. This being Hockin Wilson and Co, New Inn Yard ,Tottenham Court Road. an illustration of their range of Nurses sets in their catalogue of 1895 has this as their cheapest model, retailing at two Shillings
The metal loop for attaching it to the belt is in good condition but the straps are showing some signs of wear
Another rare and original item of great interest to the Nurse Historian or re-enactor.These seldom come onto the market and command high prices, especially in the US.
